Bernardini Filly Off the Mark at First Asking in Gulfstream Slop

Grand Cru Classe as a juvenile | ThoroStride

4th-Gulfstream, $40,000, Msw, 5-24, 3yo/up, f/m, 6f, 1:10.83, sy.
GRAND CRU CLASSE (f, 3, Bernardini–Christmas Lass, by Lemon Drop Kid), a $335,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic pick-up last year off a :22 1/5 breeze, sported a steady series of drills at Payson Park but was let go at 6-1 for this first go as the money poured in on regally bred sixth-time starter Doll Collection (Tapit–Groupie Doll). Away last but not by much, Grand Cru Classe was scrubbed on to vie for position early before eventually settling in along the fence as the chalk showed the way. She switched out to tackle the pacesetter past a :45.45 half, and splashed away in the lane run up the score to 8 3/4 lengths. The winner's unraced dam is out of MGSW Christmas Gift (Green Desert), making her a full to GISW and solid producer Christmas Kid. Christmas Lass cost $270,000 as a 2-year-old during the 2011 dispersal of Ned Evans's bloodstock holdings at Keeneland November–Christmas Kid brought $4.2 million in foal to Bernardini at the same sale and has since produced four stakes winners and/or group performers overseas. Christmas Lass produced a Nyquist filly last season and was bred back to Hard Spun. Sales history: $137,000 Ylg '18 FTKOCT; $335,000 2yo '19 EASMAY. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000.
